Biography
Emily Li works with unions to help find solutions to their legal issues. She assists construction industry trade unions with all of their labour board matters, from unionizing a workplace to construction industry grievances. In addition to her construction labour relations work, she helps private and public sector unions solve problems that arise during and after an employment relationship, including recovering unpaid wages, getting union members their jobs back, and seeking human rights damages.
While in law school, Emily worked at Advocates for Injured Workers, where she represented workers before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. The cases she worked on included claims involving complex medico-legal issues, and whether an employer should be allowed to rely on irrelevant surveillance evidence.
Emily articled with the Firm and returned as an associate following her call to the Ontario Bar in 2019. She is an alumnus of the University of Toronto, where she earned her law degree, a Masters degree in Criminology, and an Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminology.
In addition to solving legal problems, Emily likes to venture into unconventional fields. Although she is no Olympian, she has dabbled in fencing, dragon-boating, and archery. When she’s unarmed, you may find her browsing the Egyptian section of the Royal Ontario Museum or listening to Dvořák’s Cello Concerto at Roy Thomson Hall.
Emily is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, and proficient in both traditional and simplified Chinese.
