Diversity & Inclusion

Goldblatt Partners is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in our workplace, in the labour bar and legal profession, and in the broader community.

We believe in substantive equality, and are committed to the protection and advancement of human rights for every person, whether they be colleagues, employees, clients or members of the public.

We advocate against all forms of discrimination in the legal profession and administration of justice.

We acknowledge the harms to Indigenous peoples in Canada from ongoing settler colonialism. We are committed to supporting meaningful reconciliation processes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples while working to uphold the treaty relationships that ground our presence on these lands.

Goldblatt Partners’ long-standing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion has been reflected both through our advocacy on behalf of our clients, and in our own workplace.

Our lawyers led the fight for LGBTQ rights; have fought against discrimination on the basis of race, gender, gender identity and expression, religion and disability both in the workplace and in employment hiring processes; led the battle for pay and employment equity in a wide array of workplaces; and argued against age-discrimination in mandatory retirement and the provision of benefits to older workers. We also work to support Indigenous peoples and governments to protect their lands and resources, and to advance their constitutional rights.

The principles of equity and equality are important to our clients, and they also shape our workplace culture. We recognize that a diversity of perspectives is critical to our ability to provide first-rate advocacy and excellent service to our clients. We are committed to creating a respectful and inclusive workplace and to recruit, retain and foster the growth of lawyers and staff from diverse communities. We are proud to be one of the few law firms in Canada with more than 50% female partners.

We recognize, however, that there is still much work to be done. We take seriously our responsibility to answer the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and to encourage others in the profession to do the same. We continue to develop new initiatives to improve our workplace policies and practices, and to recruit lawyers from communities that are under-represented in the legal profession and in the labour law bar. These initiatives are supported by our Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which makes recommendations to promote diversity and inclusion within the firm. The Diversity and Inclusion Committee works closely with all of the firm’s committees – and particularly our Students Committee, Associates Committee, and Steering Committee – to ensure that our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is translated into the everyday practices of our firm.
