Steven Barrett & Steven Shrybman re-claim the “right to work”

December 10, 2015

Steven Barrett will moderate a panel of trade unionists, workers’ activists and academics at “Re-Claiming The Right to Work: Labour Rights as Human Rights in the 21st Century“. Steven Shrybman will participate as a panelist.

Co-sponsored by Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights (CLAIHR), the Centre for Labour Management Relations, Faraday Law, and Goldblatt Partners, panelists will discuss whether we can re-claim the “right to work” by re-framing work as a public good, rather than a commodity and, if so:

  • what this would mean for the right of workers to participate in productive activities and to obtain an adequate standard of living
  • what the implications would be for national and international regulatory systems, as well as transnational migration, and
  • how such a shift could help organized labour and non-unionized workers to respond to growing conditions of precarity and the erosion of decent work.

When:    Thursday, December 10, 2015
Where:   Ted Rogers School of Management, 55 Dundas St. West, Toronto
Time:     5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
