Biography
Sophie Abbatt represents provincial and federal trade unions in both the public and private sectors. With a calm and compassionate demeanour, Sophie provides diligent and thoughtful advocacy that keeps the trade union’s interests and their workers’ concerns at the forefront.
Sophie’s dedication to meaningful advocacy began with her undergraduate work at a Montreal-based sexual assault centre. It was reinforced in law school while working at Parkdale Community Legal Services. There, she assisted non-unionized workers in drafting Employment Standards Act violations, wrongful dismissal actions, and human rights claims. Sophie continues to support non-unionized workers by volunteering at the Workers’ Action Centre and drafting Employment Standard Acts claims.
Prior to law school, Sophie worked at a photography camp teaching 8–12-year-olds the rules of composition and basic camera techniques. It was here that she learned the advantages of clear and simple instructions. Demonstrations with glitter and water balloons helped as well.
