Biography
Sabrina Sukhdeo supports trade unions across the public sector in their fight to ensure that all workers are treated with dignity and fairness. She provides practical advice on a wide range of workplace issues and passionately advocates for clients before grievance arbitrators, the Human Rights Tribunal, the Labour Relations Board, and the courts.
Sabrina’s time as a crisis worker and community advocate at a sexual assault centre shapes her legal practice. She intimately learned how trauma can develop and how it can impact a person, particularly in the workplace and as they navigate the legal system. She also learned how collective action can be harnessed to protect and support those who have suffered harm and injustice. Inspired by these experiences, Sabrina applies a trauma-informed approach to her work. She earns the trust of clients and grievors by bringing compassion and care to every case while pushing firmly for justice and accountability.
Sabrina’s commitment to workers’ rights shone throughout her legal studies. As she completed her J.D. at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, she honed her advocacy skills helping workers understand, enforce, and advance their rights through her clinical work. As a caseworker at Downtown Legal Services, she assisted low-wage and student workers challenging wage theft, unsafe working conditions, and discrimination in their workplaces. Sabrina also volunteered at the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, where she supported the development of aftermetoo.com, a one-stop information shop for people experiencing gender-based workplace harassment in Canada.
When she isn’t working hard for working people, Sabrina is an amateur Drake historian and an expert dessert locator.
