UN troops are allegedly trading food for sex with children. The world must end this disgrace. National Post, February 9, 2016.

In this op-ed, Emma Phillips discusses what must be done to address the many allegations of sexual violence by peacekeepers in the Central African Republic and elsewhere, and the importance of holding peacekeeping troops accountable for their actions.

Emma was counsel to the Independent Panel on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse by International Peacekeeping Forces in the Central African Republic. The Panel was appointed by the UN and chaired by retired Supreme Court of Canada Judge Marie Deschamps. It issued a detailed and comprehensive report examining the failures of the UN to confront the issue of sexual violence by peacekeepers and made specific recommendations to the UN to prevent the recurrence of sexual violence.
