Steven Barrett appears at the IACHR

June 25, 2015

Steven Barrett is in Costa Rica to appear as counsel for the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) in the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

The ITUC intervened in a case referred to the Court by the Government of Panama, in which the Court was asked to determine whether the protections of the American Convention on Human Rights extends beyond natural persons and applies equally to corporations.

The ITUC agreed that the Convention does not protect corporations, but argued that Article 16, which guarantees freedom of association, protects both individual workers and the trade unions that represent them.
