No paid sick leave. What do you do?
Dan Sheppard talks to Ontario Today about paid sick leave
Shortly after it took office in 2018, the Ford government eliminated the 2 days of paid sick leave employees were entitled to under the Employment Standards Act (the “ESA”). That was bad enough, but then COVID-19 came along. Suddenly, the government that took away the paltry number of paid sick days many employees had under the ESA was encouraging them to stay home if they did not feel well.
Dan Sheppard talked to Rita Celli on Ontario Today about the history of paid sick leave under the ESA, the changes made by the Ford government to remove or restrict the rights employees had before Ford’s amendments, and the difficulties employees and their families have in coping without paid sick days, especially in the middle of a global pandemic. He also answered questions from callers.
