Job opportunity – Director, Legal Talent

Goldblatt Partners LLP is seeking a Director, Legal Talent to enhance and lead our legal talent acquisition, retention and development function. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a crucial role in shaping and refining our management strategies to support career development and foster a thriving work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute comprehensive strategies for recruitment, retention, onboarding, and talent development to elevate the firm’s profile and support our growth objectives.
  • Program Management: Oversee all facets of the Summer and Articling Student programs, from orientation and training to mentorship and performance evaluation, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience.
  • Recruitment and Outreach: Spearhead student recruitment initiatives, serve as the primary liaison with law schools, and represent the firm to prospective candidates to attract top talent.
  • Operational Support: Partner closely with the Managing Partner, Steering Committee, Human Resources Manager, and Practice Group Leaders to manage the daily operations of the Associate and Student Programs.
  • Career Development: Facilitate onboarding, career progression, and training programs that support the professional growth of legal professionals within the firm.
  • Workflow Management: Manage and enhance the Associate work allocation process; capacity management, promoting equitable access to appropriate work opportunities, supporting Partners in service team creation and maintenance initiatives, and investing in Associate’s aspirations and career satisfaction.
  • Performance Management: Oversee performance evaluation processes for Associates and Students to ensure consistent feedback and development.
  • Mentorship and Inclusion: Develop and manage formal and informal mentorship programs, supporting our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and aligning with the firm’s commitment to an inclusive workplace.
  • Collaborative Initiatives: Work collaboratively with the Steering Committee, Associate Committee, and Student Committee to drive strategic talent management initiatives and address operational priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: JD/LLB with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a legal environment, including prior legal talent management experience. Prior experience in labour and employment law is an asset.
  • Industry Insight: In-depth understanding of the legal industry’s talent dynamics and trends, with a passion for staying informed about evolving practices.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with a talent for clarity, persuasion, and diplomacy.
  • Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated experience in strategic thinking, coaching, creative problem-solving, and building collaborative relationships at all levels of an organization.
  • Technical Acumen: Proficiency in legal recruitment software and technology to enhance process efficiency and operational effectiveness.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong project management capabilities, with an emphasis on organization, prioritization, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Initiative and Results: A proactive, results-driven mindset with strong analytical skills.
