Webinar: Protecting Worker Health and Safety

This webinar on worker health and safety is one of a series of Zoom webinars we are holding on employment law issues associated with COVID-19.

On Thursday, April 23, 2020, Christine Davies and Ryan Newell led a webinar on Protecting Worker Health and Safety During the Pandemic.

Moderated by Kelly Doctor, this webinar examined a variety of worker health and safety issues as they relate to the CVID-19 pandemic.

Ryan began the webinar by outlining an employer’s duties under health and safety legislation. This included measures employers should take to minimize the risk of employees contracting COVID-19. Christine discussed the concept of the “expanded workplace”, and whether health and safety legislation covers employees working from home.

Ryan then looked at an employee’s right to refuse to perform unsafe work and explained how that right must be exercised so that the employee does not risk getting into trouble. Finally, Christine reviewed the types of COVID-19-related injuries that might be covered by workers’ compensation and what a worker must do to make a compensation claim.
